Frequently Asked Questions

An EAP is a workplace benefit provided by employers to support the wellbeing of their employees. EAP’s offer confidential counselling and referral services to help employees address personal or work-related concerns that may impact their mental health, emotional wellbeing or job performance.

When you call, we will ask who your employer is. This will ensure that we have an agreement with your employer and can advise on how many sessions you will be able to access through your EAP.

We will then send you an intake form to complete and submit back to us and schedule your first appointment.

With the allowance of certain exceptions described below, an EAP is a strictly confidential and private service. This ensures employees can seek support for their challenges without needing to disclose them to their employer.

It is important to know there are exceptions in which Psychologists and Counsellors will exercise their duty to waive confidentiality. This can occur when:

  1. The information is subpoenaed (officially requested) by a court of law
  2. Failure to disclose certain information would place you or another person at serious risk of harm
  3. Your prior approval has been obtained to provide a written report to another professional or agency.

There is NO cost to the employee. It is the employer who pays.

The number of sessions you are eligible for per year varies depending on your employer. However, EAP services typically provide short term support. If longer term support is needed, your therapist will discuss suitable options with you.
